Sources: Man United cost of sacking Ten Hag revealed

It will cost Man United over £15million if they choose to sack manager Erik ten Hag this season, Football Insider can reveal.

The Red Devils boss is under huge pressure at Old Trafford following a poor start to the season, including a disappointing 3-0 derby defeat to Manchester City last Sunday.

United sit eighth in the league table after 10 games and are third in their Champions League group after winning just once.

A report from the Daily Mail (31 October) now states that United players fear Ten Hag’s managerial approach is affecting team morale.

The 53-year-old Dutch manager was appointed as manager in the summer of 2022 following a very successful stint at Eredivisie side Ajax.

He helped United lift the Carabao Cup and achieve a third-place finish in the Premier League during his first season in charge, but performances have failed to reach similar standards in 2023/24.

If the United hierarchy chooses to sack Ten Hag this season, Football Insider understands that it would cost the club a compensation payout of over £15million.

His contract at United runs until 2025 with an option to extend for a further year, and sacking Ten Hag would require the Glazers to pay him his guaranteed salary for the length of his contract.

According to The Mirror, Ten Hag is earning around £9million per year as United boss.

United would also have to cough up significant compensation fees to dismiss his backroom staff.

United’s board have previously paid huge sums to sack managers prior to Ten Hag, including a £15million payout to Ralf Rangnick despite the German spending just six months at the club.

According to The Sun, United also spent £38million sacking David Moyes, Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
