'Cringe', 'Don't cry if you're near me' - West Ham fans react to Declan Rice return
Declan Rice’s return to the London Stadium for Arsenal’s League Cup clash has divided the West Ham United fanbase.
Arsenal take the trip to Stratford on Wednesday (1 November) in Rice’s first encounter with his former club as a Gunner after his £105million summer move.
Rice has bedded in excellently for Mikel Arteta’s side this season with two goals and two assists in all competitions, including the late winner in Arsenal’s 3-1 win over Manchester United.
The 24-year-old was at West Ham for a decade and ended his tenure in East London as the captain, departing on the back of the Hammers’ historic Europa Conference League victory.
While Rice was pivotal in West Ham’s recent success, the fanbase’s reaction if Rice steps on the grass looks set to be mixed.
Some fans were outraged by the thought of Rice receiving an unfriendly welcome.

Others remained more neutral but insisted that his past contributions to the Hammers means he does not deserve any jeers from the crowds.
Other fans were not as accepting of Rice’s return, suggesting that a warm welcoming back is not an option at all.
Some supporters were understanding of fans’ anger over Rice’s return but feared that a poor reception could spur the England international on against his former side.
One supporter claimed that the fanbase has “moved on”, meaning Rice should not receive any recognition at all, good or bad.
One fan was insistent on giving Rice stick but admitted they may offer him some acknowledgement if West Ham gets the win.
In other news, sources have shared that Michail Antonio is in talks with West Ham amid a “huge deal” reveal.
