Sources: Expected winner named in Liverpool and Arsenal race to sign Andre after new twist

Liverpool remain confident about landing Fluminense midfielder Andre despite fresh interest from rivals Arsenal, sources have told Football Insider.

The Reds were frontrunners to land the 22-year-old in the summer window, with Football Insider revealing in August that they have seen multiple bids for the Brazil international rejected.

Fluminense were keen to keep the midfielder until January as they look to win a historic first-ever Copa Libertadores title.

Arsenal have now shown an interest in Andre – a development which has caused concern at Liverpool.

But a well-placed source has told Football Insider that the Merseysiders remain optimistic about persuading the midfielder to choose a move to Anfield.

That is despite a sizeable Brazillian contingent at Arsenal, which includes Gabriel, Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus – as well as sporting director Edu.

Andre has racked up 49 club appearances across all competitions this year, scoring once.

The Brazillian season is not set to end until December.

Fluminense have also reached the final of the Copa Libertadores and will play Argentine giants Boca Juniors on 4 November in Brazil with the trophy on the line.

Andre, who is under contract until December 2026, has racked up 157 games in total for his boyhood club since making his professional debut in September 2020.

He is also capped twice for Brazil and made his most recent appearance in the 1-1 draw against Venezuela last week (13 October).

Arsenal are playing Champions League football this term, while Liverpool were forced to settle for a place in the Europa League after finishing fifth last season.

The two clubs are separated by three points in the Premier League table, with the Gunners sitting joint-top of the top flight.
