Sources: Championship and Serie A clubs race to sign ex-Rangers star Nikola Katic
Clubs from the English Championship and Italy’s Serie A are ready to move for former Rangers defender Nikola Katic, sources have told Football Insider.
The 26-year-old now plys his trade for FC Zurich and is one of the top-performing defenders in the Swiss Super League.
A well-placed source has told Football Insider that one club has come forward on Friday (11 August) with a concrete offer for Katic.
The one-time Croatia international left Rangers for Zurich last summer (2022) but is already being targeted for a potential return to Britain.
He played 26 times for the Swiss side last term, including four appearances in the Europa League – and has already played 90 minutes in three games in the 2023-24 campaign.
Katic’s contract in Zurich runs until June 2025.

He joined Rangers on a four-year deal in 2018 after leaving Slaven Belupo in his native Croatia.
The centre-back played 30 times across all competitions in his first season at Ibrox, but became a fan favourite the in the following campaign after scoring a famous winner in a 2-1 Old Firm victory in December 2019.
Katic’s promising Rangers career was stunted in the following summer when he suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in pre-season training.
He missed the entire 2020-21 campaign and was ultimately sent out on loan to Hadjuk Split before departing permanently last summer (2022).
The now 26-year-old made 59 appearances across all competitions in Glasgow, notching six goals and three assists.
