Aston Villa tipped for January signing spree as Trezeguet put up for sale - pundit
Alan Hutton has tipped Aston Villa to offload a couple of players to free up space for new signings in January.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Villa defender insisted the likes of Bertrand Traore, Anwar El Ghazi and Trezeguet have had “enough opportunities” to establish themselves as senior mainstays.
As revealed by Football Insider on Monday (29 November), Steven Gerrard is looking to offload the three senior attackers in January.
A Villa source told this site the 41-year-old feels he has inherited an unbalanced squad overloaded out wide.
Hutton suggested getting a couple of names out the door could see new signings come into Villa Park.
Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “I don’t think that a massive rush (to sell) but I think Steven Gerrard’s right.

“They are heavily loaded in those forward areas. We can sit here and say these guys have had enough opportunities to be in the team and absolutely shine.
“We have seen it in flashes but I’ve always said I need more. I need to see more of it. We know how talented they are.
“He probably wants to balance that squad up a little bit. They’re very light at left-back but you’ve got all these wingers. I understand what he’s doing there.
“It will be interesting to see who he actually lets go because I think the owners will back the manager in January with a new signing or two. There is a big squad there so he will have to offset that.”
As detailed by Football Insider (27 November), Gerrard wants to sign a new centre-back and central midfielder in January.
El Ghazi has featured twice as a substitute under the new manager.
However, both Traore and Trezeguet are currently missing through injury.
