'He loves Rangers' - McAvennie reveals new Ibrox arrival 'from what I gather'

Appointing Graeme Souness is the best thing Rangers have done this season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Celtic striker Frank McAvennie claimed that bringing Souness back to the club in an advisory role is the “best signing” the Gers have made.

The 70-year-old is closing in on a return to Ibrox in a consultancy role after being brought in to help with the process of choosing a new manager.

Speaking to talkSPORT (26 October), Souness admitted that he urged to board to appoint Frank Lampard as the club’s new manager instead of Philippe Clement, but understands why the hierarchy chose to opt for the Belgian.

Souness admitted that he was a fan of both candidates and although the final say was not with him, he played a part in the recruitment process.

McAvennie insisted the former manager will have a bigger part to play moving forward.

The best thing they have done at Rangers is get Graeme Souness back into the club to make the decisions.

He is football oriented and he loves Rangers. It was him who had a say in picking the manager from what I can gather.

They have gone through a lot but Graeme coming and talking to the candidates, he will have known right away.

At the moment, the goalkeeper and Graeme Souness have been the best signings Rangers have made. The other signings have not justified the big price tag.
