Revealed: Moyes and Steidten agreed on one player West Ham will sign

West Ham will step up their efforts to sign a prolific new forward after Gianluca Scamacca completes his exit, sources have told Football Insider.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (7 August) that Scamacca, 24, is in Rome undergoing a medical after agreeing a £27.6million move to Atalanta.

The Irons will recoup the majority of the fee paid to Sassuolo to land the Italy international last summer (2022).

Sources told Football Insider on Friday (4 August) that tensions are high between West Ham boss David Moyes and director of football Tim Steidten – with the senior duo struggling to find common ground as they draw up transfer plans.

However, it is believed both men are in agreement that a new striker signing is a top priority for the London side in the final weeks of the summer window.

Scamacca struggled to find his feet in England after joining West Ham last year and managed just eight goals in 27 outings across all competitions.

Just three of those strikes came in the Premier League as the Irons survived a relegation scare to finish 14th in the 2022-23 campaign.

Scamacca featured just a handful of times for Moyes’ side in the second half of the season due to injury.

Meanwhile, Michail Antonio could also exit the club with less than 12 months to run on his contract.

Football Insider revealed last week (1 August) that Everton, Nottingham Forest and Wolves could rekindle their interest in the Jamaica international after making moves for him in January.

Experienced forward Danny Ings joined the Irons in the winter window but managed just three strikes in 22 outings.

West Ham start their Premier League campaign against Bournemouth this Saturday (12 August).

Moyes’ side will also play Europa League football this season, entering the competition at the group stage.
