Man City news: Journalist's 'unstoppable' Erling Haaland bid news has pundit excited

Alan Hutton has suggested Pep Guardiola may have to change his tactics to fit Erling Haaland or Harry Kane into the starting XI at Manchester City.

The former Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the duo currently play in systems set up to get them goals.

Speaking to club media on Saturday (5 March), Guardiola confirmed his plans to sign a new striker this summer, but insisted the club would wait for “something special”.

Meanwhile, as reported by The Athletic’s David Ornstein on Monday (7 March), Haaland is City’s primary target.

They are said to be in a straight fight with Real Madrid for his capture.

Hutton suggested Guardiola may tweak his tactics to get Haaland into his side.

Discussing a possible move for the Norway international, Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Can you imagine? I think he’d be unstoppable if that happened.

“The only thing I would say, and I was thinking this if Kane was to go there, where these guys play, they get set up to score the goals.

“Look at Man City and the positions they play and the way they play. it’s very spread out. Foden scores, Mahrez scores, De Bruyne scores, Silva scores. It’s all very spread out.

“It’s lovely football they like to play. Would it slightly change if Haaland was their number nine? Maybe. I still think he would score a barrel-load of goals.

“If they were to add someone of that quality. I think it’d be very difficult to stop them.”

Riyad Mahrez is City’s top scorer this season with 21 goals in 33 appearances.
