McAvennie: Celtic are heading out of Europe after new twist
Celtic are unlikely to be in a European competition after the winter break.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Hoops striker Frank McAvennie suggested the Bhoys are unlikely to get a result off any of the teams in their group in the remaining games of the campaign.
Brendan Rodgers’ side were unlucky not to put points on the board after the game against Lazio on Wednesday (4 October) after a dominant performance.
The Hoops thought they were in for a point until the final minutes of injury time when substitute Pedro found the back of the net to pile on the misery for Celtic and the game finished 2-1.
Their next test comes in the form of a home game against Atletico Madrid at the end of the month but the Hoops have failed to win a game at home since a victory over Ajax back in 2013.
McAvennie is worried about the Hoops’ future in Europe this season.

“They will struggle to get third place now,” he told Football Insider.
“It is between them and Feyenoord. They have got to go now and beat Feyenoord at home and beat them by more goals than they beat us.
“I think it will be a hard one because they are a good team but you never know. Real Madrid came to Parkhead and again it was the chances we had, we never took them.
“If we can get third we are in Europe in the new year so fingers crossed.“
