Sources: Clement plotting to lure stars to Rangers in January he knows well

Rangers boss Philippe Clement is plotting to bring a number of familiar stars to Ibrox in the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed the Belgian, 49, is keen to put his own stamp on the Gers squad by dipping into the market.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (23 October) that Rangers chiefs are working hard to make transfer funds available for new manager Clement.

However, it is believed funds are tight at Ibrox following the summer splurge led by now-departed boss Michael Beale.

Clement took charge of the Gers for the first time on Saturday (21 October), leading his new side to a comprehensive 4-0 win over Hibernian.

The Belgian, who signed a contract at Rangers running until 2027, faces his next test in the Europa League against Sparta Prague on Thursday (26 October).

He has previously managed at Monaco, Club Brugge, Genk and S.K. Beveren.

Clement is plotting transfer movement in January despite no fewer than nine new signings arriving in the summer window.

Beale undertook a significant overhaul of the squad, which also saw 15 first-teamers depart Ibrox throughout the course of the off-season.

However, several of his high-profile signings – including striker trio Danilo, Cyril Dessers and Sam Lammers – failed to hit the ground running, contributing to his dismissal.

Beale was sacked with Rangers sitting some seven points adrift of rivals Celtic after just seven games.

Nonetheless, Clement has the chance to bring silverware to Ibrox in the form of the Scottish League Cup – with Celtic already eliminated before the semi-final stage.
