Revealed: Brighton won't agree Mitoma release clause after Liverpool 'verbal agreement' in the summer

Brighton are not willing to include a release clause in any potential new contract for star winger Kaoru Mitoma, sources have told Football Insider.

Football Insider revealed on Friday (6 October) that the Seagulls are confident of agreeing a deal with the 26-year-old soon.

Mitoma’s current deal only runs until June 2025 as several elite Premier League clubs eye a potential move for his services.

Nevertheless, it is not believed that a release clause will be included in his new deal.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that a buyout clause would “go against how Brighton do their business”.

Moises Caicedo did not have a release clause in his deal as he sealed a reported £115million move to Chelsea in the summer window.

The Ecuador international signed a new contract at Brighton in March but was allowed to leave the south coast club just under six months later.

Meanwhile, it is believed the Seagulls had a verbal agreement with Alexis Mac Allister which allowed him to join Liverpool for a knockdown fee in the summer window.

The Reds paid an initial reported fee of just £35million, rising to £55million after add-ons.

Mitoma fits into the same bracket of talent as the departed duo following his good start to the new season.

The right-footer has managed three goals and four assists in 10 appearances across all competitions.

He managed 10 goals and eight assists in 41 appearances across all competitions as the Seagulls achieved a historic sixth-place finish last term.

The Japan international currently earns a reported wage of £10,000-a-week but is expected to receive a handsome rise with any potential new deal.

In other news, Brighton plan to open 32-year-old talks soon.
