Jacob Ramsey may have £100m-plus Aston Villa release clause after confirmed news - Agbonlahor

Aston Villa may have inserted a release clause of over £100million in Jacob Ramsey’s new contract, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Aston Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer admitted he hoped the club have “learnt their lesson” after Jack Grealish joined Man City for £100million last summer (2021).

Aston Villa confirmed last week (26 April) that Ramsey, 20, has penned a new deal that will keep him at the club until 2027.

The Times reported the next day (27 April) the new deal is worth £70,000-a-week.

“I’m sure Villa have learnt their lesson with release clauses,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“I don’t think they will do that again or they will set it much higher than £100million.

“Jacob Ramsey is going to keep going on and on and the big clubs will be looking at him.

“When you’re signed up for five years then it makes it harder for players to leave.

“Look at Declan Rice, he’s got a few years left with no release clause and West Ham can just keep him.

“It’s great news for Aston Villa. That midfield will be McGinn, Ramsey with one more position available.

“He will be starting first-choice with McGinn in that centre-midfield role.”

Ramsey has been a standout performer this season with seven goal contributions in 31 Premier League games.

The England youth international has been with the Midlands giants since the age of six and his young brother Aaron, 19, is on the club’s books having spent the second half of this season on loan with Cheltenham Town.

In other news, a medical expert has revealed Leon Bailey may not play for Aston Villa again this season as a “nightmare” claim is issued.
