Kieran Maguire: Aston Villa to demand compensation before ripping up £4m+ contract

Aston Villa could demand a compensation fee from Castore before ending their kit manufacturer deal.

That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that Villa could end up losing money from their Castore deal if it negatively impacts results.

Villa players from the club’s men’s and women’s side have complained about the design of their 2023/24 Castore kit, claiming it weighs players down.

Football Insider revealed on Thursday (28 September) that Villa are looking for an exit route in their Castore deal.

The agreement is understood to be worth around £4million per season to Aston Villa.

Maguire believes Villa will not struggle to find a new manufacturer deal after impressing under Unai Emery and qualifying for Europe.

It depends whether or not Castore are deemed to be in breach of contract,” Maguire told Football Insider.

The small print will dictate the ease at which Villa can move on from here.

Villa under Unai Emery are looking a far more attractive team on the pitch and they’re playing in Europe.

So they do have some additional income streams coming in and they’ll be looking to maximise their brand.

“If that could be done with another manufacturer who offers more, then then that could be a step forward.

But I suspect Villa will be first looking at the contract to see whether they feel that there is an opportunity to extract some sort of financial compensation from Castore.

Given that one place higher in the Premier League is worth £2.5 million you can see why.

If players are being impacted in terms of their performance and that has a detrimental impact upon results, Villa could end up on a net loss as a result of this deal.
