Holding tipped to replace 'stupid' Arsenal star after confirmed news - pundit

Kevin Campbell has tipped Rob Holding to replace the suspended Gabriel Magalhaes when Arsenal take on Nottingham Forest.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Highbury favourite bemoaned Gabriel’s “stupid sending off” against Manchester City.

The 24-year-old was handed a second yellow in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to City at the Emirates.

The centre-half was due to miss the League Cup semi-final first leg against Liverpool.

However, the game has been officially postponed (5 January) upon Liverpool’s request after a Covid outbreak at the club.

Gabriel will instead miss this weekend’s FA Cup clash against Nottingham Forest.

Campbell expects Mikel Arteta to name a strong side which includes Holding, 26, at the City Ground.

“You have got to be cold and you have got to be strong,” he told Football Insider.

“You cannot let the emotion take over. Gabriel had been booked. He cannot go in like that. He should have put the brakes on. As a player, you have to know what you are doing. He got caught up in the emotion of it. It was a stupid sending off.

“I think Rob Holding will replace him. Ben White is capable of playing on the left so Holding can play on the right. It is only one game which isn’t too bad.

“Arsenal are going for silverware so I expect a strong lineup. Players want to win trophies.”
