Lynch sources: Liverpool prioritise defender signing, update on Benjamin Pavard revealed
Liverpool are not in the running to sign Benjamin Pavard from Bayern Munich this summer, sources have told Football Insider.
With the Frenchman entering the final year of his contract, it has been suggested that the Bundesliga champions could look to cash in so as to avoid losing him on a free transfer in 12 months’ time.
And the Reds, who are in the market for defensive reinforcements, are among the clubs who have been most strongly linked with a swoop.
However, Football Insider understands that there is no truth to speculation that they might make a move for Pavard this summer.
Liverpool’s current focus is on addressing their long-standing midfield issues by adding to the recent £35m signing of Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton.
They are expected to choose from a shortlist of players that Football Insider understands now features Khephren Thuram, Manu Kone, Gabri Veiga and Romeo Lavia before making their next move.

It is then hoped that Jurgen Klopp will be able to bolster a defence that looked porous for large parts of a disappointing 2022-23 campaign.
A flexible defender capable of operating primarily in central but also wide positions is thought to be the priority for the Merseyside club’s recruitment team.
A right-back who has ocassionally been used at centre-back, Pavard appeared to fit the bill in terms of that need, though it is understood that he will not be heading to Anfield.
It remains to be seen if the France international can earn a new contract at Bayern after recently being lavished with praise by manager Thomas Tuchel.
“He is an underrated player,” the former Chelsea coach said.
“He can adapt to the highest level and he defends rigorously. He is a top team player, he immediately had my confidence and proved to me that I had been right.”
