James Maddison trolls Alexander-Arnold over Liverpool VAR catastrophe and then reveals if the pair are still friends

James Maddison has taken to social media to make fun of Trent Alexander-Arnold after Liverpool’s suggestion to replay their game against Tottenham.

Maddison took to Instagram whilst away on international duty with England and shared a photo of the players with the caption “still asking for a replay”.

Reds manager Jurgen Klopp suggested that the match from 30 September be replayed after the Luis Diaz VAR catastrophe.

The refereeing body PGMOL have already apologised to Liverpool after wrongly disallowing the first half goal.

The audio from the decision has since been publicly shared, which reveals how officials agreed with the on-field decision, which they thought was to allow the goal.

By the time the replay officer had pointed out the mistake, play had resumed and it was too late to change the decision and the Reds went on to lose the game 2-1.

Whilst training with England, Maddison, the now Tottenham star, couldn’t help but poke fun at his international teammate.

Speaking to talkSPORT (11 October), Maddison admitted that the joke was just a bit of “tongue-in-cheek banter” and insisted the pair are still good friends.

The 26-year-old added that the game is in the past and he was just having a “little mess around” to wind up his friend.

The pair will be playing on the same side Australia on Friday (13 October) and then again against Italy on 17 October.
