Spotted: Watch how Liverpool players react to incredible Darwin Nunez miss
Darwin Nunez astonished supporters and his Liverpool teammates with his incredible miss against Toulouse in their Europa League match on Thursday night (26 October).
Although Nunez did find himself on the scoresheet in the first half, he could have doubled his goal tally late on but failed to do so in the most humiliating fashion.
The Liverpool striker race on to a Diogo Jota pass from just outside the centre circle and did all the difficult work superbly as he shook off the Tolouse defenders and rounded goalkeeper Guillaume Restes as if he wasn’t even there.
But, with an open goal in front of him, Nunez somehow contrived to direct his shot into the post rather than the empty net.
Teammate Ryan Gravenberch was on hand to score the rebound but Anfield was stunned and Nunez sank to his knees in embarrassment and threw his head into his hands.
We have captured the footage of the goal that firstly shows the neat pass from Jota that found Nunez making a trademark lightning run from the centre circle:

Nunez then managed to beat off the French defenders, one of whom ended up on the floor:
As a result, this was the shot Nunez had to bury:
The strike smacked off the right hand post but fell to the feet of Gravenberch, who made no mistake in turning it home:
In footage shared to X (26 October), one fan captured the reaction of Nunez’s teammates to the unfortunate miss:
Trent Alexander-Arnold was quick to put his arm around the attacker and offer some reassurance whilst Gravenberch couldn’t help but have a laugh with Nunez after help setting up his goal.
Curtis Jones was also there to offer support to his teammate and appeared to have a brief discussion with Nunez about the miss.
Luckily for Nunez the miss did not define the result of the game and the Reds won 5-1 against their French opponents to remain top of the group with three points from three games.
