Sources: Major update on Burnley deals for Maatsen and Tella
Burnley have moved on from their pursuit of last season’s loan stars Nathan Tella and Ian Maatsen, sources have told Football Insider.
Both players were fan favourites and top performers during their spells at Turf Moor and Vincent Kompany would have loved to keep them at Turf Moor permanently.
Burnley explored deals earlier in the summer, but have been put off by Southampton and Chelsea’s valuation of the duo.
Moves cannot be ruled out in the final days of the transfer window, but the Lancashire club have now turned their attention to alternative targets.
Burnley have already added no fewer than 11 new faces following their promotion back to the Premier League as champions, spending a reported £78million.
Football Insider revealed on Saturday (19 August) that Kompany’s side are ready to smash their transfer record once again – with £25million set aside for a prolific striker signing.

Sources also told Football Insider on Saturday that Burnley retain an active interest in Sunderland winger Jack Clarke – who is valued at £15million by the Black Cats.
It is believed the Clarets have already seen a bid of £10million rising to £12million rejected for Clarke.
Tella was last season’s top scorer at Turf Moor, notching 19 goals across all competitions as Burnley achieved promotion as champions.
He is under contract at Southampton until June 2025 and has started all three of their Championship games this season.
Meanwhile, Maatsen has returned to parent club Chelsea and has impressed during the club’s pre-season preparations.
He turned out 42 times across all competitions for Burnley last term, notching four goals and six assists.
The defender, who has less than 12 months to run on his contract at Stamford Bridge, came off the bench for the Blues in last week’s draw against Liverpool.
