Sources: Southampton submitting joint bid for Joel Piroe and Swansea teammate to blow Leeds United out of the water
Southampton are ready to submit a joint bid for Swansea City duo Joel Piroe and Nathan Wood, sources have told Football Insider.
Southampton boss Russell Martin is keen to be reunited with Dutch striker Piroe and centre-back Wood as he looks to strengthen his squad at St Mary’s.
Leeds United are also interested in Piroe, but their Championship rivals hope the lure of a double deal for the striker and Wood will give them the edge in talks with Swansea.
United have a long-standing interest in Piroe, who they targeted late on in last year’s summer transfer window, and value him in the region of £8million to £10m.
The 24-year-old, who scored 19 goals in the Championship for Swansea last season and 22 the season before, is into the last 12 months of his contract with the club and has so far resisted their offer of a two-year extension.
Wood has also entered the final year of his deal in Wales after joining from Middlesbrough last summer.

The 21-year-old made 43 appearances across all competitions last term, offering up one assist in those outings.
The centre-back has started all of Swansea’s games so far this season, including a 3-0 league cup win over Northampton.
Both Southampton and Leeds are in need of reinforcements following their relegation from the Premier League last term.
The Saints have already lost star man James Ward-Prowse who joined West Ham earlier this summer whilst Leeds have lost several first team stars on loan due to relegation clauses in their contracts.
