Sources: Isaac Hayden undergoing Sheffield Wednesday medical as Newcastle deal agreed
Newcastle midfielder Isaac Hayden is undergoing a medical at Sheffield Wednesday ahead of a loan move to Hillsborough, sources have told Football Insider.
The midfielder, 28, has been deemed surplus to requirements at St James’ Park with the midfielder not having been given a spot in Eddie Howe’s plans and being forced to train away from the first-team squad.
Hayden was close to joining Luton earlier this week only for the deal to fall through, and Sheffield Wednesday have moved quickly to agree a deal for the experienced midfielder.
He spent last season out on loan with Norwich City but made only 14 appearances in the Championship with injuries hampering his time at Carrow Road.
Hayden has been at Newcastle since 2016 and is under contract on Tyneside until June 2026 after penning a long-term deal before the club’s mega-money takeover.
The midfielder has racked up 171 total appearances for the Magpies, including 118 outings in the Premier League.

He also has experience in the second tier, making 65 Championship appearances in spells at Norwich, Hull City and Newcastle.
The 28-year-old won promotion with the north-east club in the 2016-17 campaign.
Hayden’s versatility could prove key for Xisco Munoz’s side, with the ex-Arsenal youngster able to play in defensive midfield and at centre-back.
Sheffield Wednesday, who have made 10 new signings this summer, are the only Championship side yet to pick up a point after four games of the new season.
The Owls face relegated Leeds United away on Saturday (2 September).
