Sources: Chelsea close to completing Maatsen deal as Burnley rejected
Chelsea youngster Ian Maatsen is set to stay at Stamford Bridge and sign a new contract, sources have told Football Insider.
Burnley were keen on signing the 21-year-old this summer, but it is understood that he has rejected the chance to join the Clarets.
Maatsen is now set to finalise talks with the Blues about extending his stay at Stamford Bridge.
The young star spent the 2022/23 season on loan at Turf Moor, where he scored four goals and registered six assists in 42 total appearances.
Maatsen’s performances earned him a spot in the 2022/23 Championship Team of the Season.
After playing such a vital role in Burnley’s title-winning season, Clarets boss Vincent Kompany was keen to sign Maatsen on a permanent basis this summer.

However, the Dutch star is set to stay at Chelsea with Mauricio Pochettino showing early faith in his abilities this season.
The Blues boss has already handed Maatsen three appearances this season, including the entire 90 minutes in their EFL Cup clash against AFC Wimbledon on Wednesday evening.
Maatsen is playing in a more advanced role with the Londoners after spending the majority of last season at left-back for Burnley.
Prior to his Burnley loan stint, Maatsen has also enjoyed successful spells away at Charlton Athletic and Coventry City in recent seasons.
Football Insider first revealed in early August that Chelsea were holding talks with Maatsen over a new contract.
