Sources: Aberdeen make approach to sign Liverpool star Williams
Aberdeen are leading the race to sign Liverpool defender Rhys Williams, sources have told Football Insider.
The Scottish outfit are hoping to secure the 22-year-old on a season-long loan and have made their approach to the Reds.
The two clubs recently struck a deal to send Leighton Clarkson north of the border on a permanent basis following a successful temporary stint.
And there is hope that they can reach another agreement to bring in a Liverpool academy product.
Williams spent the first half of last season on loan at Championship club Blackpool, where he made 17 league appearances.
However, he was recalled in January as the Reds prepared for the possibility of Nathaniel Phillips leaving in the mid-season transfer window.

A move for Phillips ultimately did not transpire, meaning Williams failed to make an appearance across the second half of the campaign.
And he is keen to make up for lost time with a move that would guarantee regular first-team football this summer.
Aberdeen are facing competition for his signature but are understood to currently be the frontrunners to get a deal over the line.
Barry Robson’s side are eager to get reinforcements in as they prepare for a possible run in the Europa League next term.
The Dons qualified for the playoffs as they finished third in the Scottish top-flight last term behind Celtic and Rangers.
Robson recently spoke of the need for reinforcements, saying: “I know what I want to do and I know how I am going to do it.
“I am going to put a team on the pitch that the fans can be proud of.
“We are going to work hard, try to win games and get the fans on the edge of their seats.”
