Sources: Chelsea open talks to sign two stars at top of Liverpool list

Chelsea are in talks with several targets as they look to add another midfielder alongside Brighton star Moises Caicedo this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (19 June) that the Blues are pushing to complete the signing of Caicedo, 21, as soon as possible with an official bid coming this week.

And a well-placed source has revealed that Chelsea are talking to several other targets, including Southampton star Romeo Lavia and Celta Vigo ace Gabri Veiga, about a possible move to Stamford Bridge.

Both Lavia and Veiga are also top targets for Liverpool as they look to continue their midfield overhaul after signing Alexis Mac Allister.

But it is believed Chelsea cannot advance with official moves for the duo until the likes of Hakim Ziyech, Mason Mount, N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic have officially left the club.

The Blues need to clear the decks and reduce their wage bill following their lavish transfer spend in the 2022-23 campaign – and all four players are close to completing moves away from the club.

Caicedo is the number one midfield priority for Mauricio Pochettino’s side – but they are keen to add further reinforcements despite sealing a British-record deal for World Cup winner Enzo Fernandez in January.

Lavia, 19, notched one goal and one assist in 34 appearances for Southampton in the 2022-23 campaign – but could not prevent their relegation to the Championship.

The Belgium international has four years remaining on his contract after completing a 2022 move from Man City – who have the option to buy him back for £40million in 2024.

Meanwhile, Veiga has attracted interest from Europe’s top clubs after notching 11 goals and four assists in 39 appearances for Celta Vigo in the 2022-23 campaign.

The 21-year-old has three years left to run on his contract at the Spanish club.
