Rangers stars can't deliver for Steven Davis after what expert has seen - 'as horrible as it sounds'

Michael Beale’s sacking has not given the Rangers squad the boost Ibrox chiefs were hoping for.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Gers defender Alan Hutton suggested that the appointment of Steven Davis as caretaker manager has not worked as well as the club would have been hoping for.

Davis has taken charge of two games so far in his time as interim boss and lost his first game in a surprising 2-1 Europa League defeat to Aris Limassol.

Davis’ side bounced back with a 3-0 win over St Mirren and leapfrogged them back into second spot in the Scottish Premiership heading into the international break.

The Gers will be hoping to have a new manager in place by the end of the current international break but until they do Davis will continue to lead the team.

When asked if the fans were disrespecting the club legend with their performance against Limassol, Hutton told Football Insider:Of course, they all know Steven Davis and they would have wanted to do well for him.

This is a guy who has been offered an opportunity that you cannot turn down even though he has not got any experience.

The overall performance against Limassol, they just looked like sixes and sevens. Every time Limassol counter attacked with pace they looked like they could score.

After a manager gets sacked you normally see a team playing with a bit more freedom, a little bounce in their step. As horrible as it sounds, it normally happens and it did not. I get fans’ frustration at watching that and the players not delivering for the new man.”
