Rangers stars given 'rocket' as Clement makes his mark at Auchenhowie

Philippe Clement can be the “rocket” Rangers players need to kickstart their season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Gers defender Alan Hutton insisted Clement will need to hit the ground running with a tough run of fixtures but is pleased to see the new manager already working hard.

On Sunday (15 October), Rangers confirmed the appointment of the 49-year-old as their new manager, relieving Steven Davis of his caretaker duties.

The Belgian joins the club having won the league with both Genk and Club Brugge three years in a row.

Clement faces his first test as Rangers boss with a visit from Hibernian when he will be looking to close the seven point gap to Celtic.

When asked what he made of Clement’s appointment, Hutton told Football Insider:He was obviously one of the frontrunners so I was not too shocked or surprised to see him come in.

He comes from a decent background, what he did at Brugge and Monaco. I am looking forward to seeing what he can do with this group of players.

I think he will come in and give them the rocket that they need, it seems like they have been training hard since he has come in to the club so I think that is all pointing in the right direction.

He has got a lot of tough games coming up so he needs to hit the ground running. It will be interesting to see what he can actually get out of the players who are already there.
