Sources: Chelsea return with 'huge' Moises Caicedo bid after Liverpool hijack

Chelsea are preparing a huge new bid to trump Liverpool’s offer for Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo, Football Insider has learned.

The Blues have been in pursuit of the 21-year-old throughout this summer’s transfer window but have been stunned by a late hijack from Liverpool.

The Merseyside club agreed a £110million deal with Brighton for the Ecuador international on Thursday night to put a halt to Chelsea’s approach.

Football Insider revealed this morning (11 August) that Caicedo is set to undergo a medical with the Reds on Friday ahead of a record-breaking move.

However, it is now understood that Chelsea plan to return with a huge bid to rival Liverpool’s offer.

Caicedo is still in London after holding concrete talks with Chelsea, and a lucrative contract remains on the table if he chooses Stamford Bridge over Anfield.

Mauricio Pochettino is a big admirer and he is viewed as a key part of Chelsea’s midfield overhaul.

Caicedo became a top target for both Premier League sides after starring in Brighton’s midfield last season.

After completing a £4.5million move from Independiente del Valle to Brighton in 2021, Caicedo worked his way into the Seagulls’ starting lineup after a loan at Belgian side Beerschot.

He thrived under Graham Potter and Roberto De Zerbi last season, making 43 appearances across all competitions including 37 in the Premier League.

His defensive efforts for Brighton saw him finish second in the Premier League for tackles made (100) behind only Fulham’s Palhinha.
