Sources: Newcastle United make move for Kieran Tierney as Arsenal exit near

Kieran Tierney is nearing the Arsenal exit as Real Sociedad and Newcastle have made contact over a potential deal, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed Tierney wants first team football and is keen to go where he will play.

Arsenal want to sell the defender permanently, but both Sociedad and Newcastle have enquired over a potential loan deal.

Tierney has three years left on his contract at the Emirates but has been heavily linked with a move away after falling down the pecking order last term as a result of Olesksandr Zinchenko’s arrival from Man City.

Last month (8 July), Football Insider revealed that Tierney is the top left back target for Newcastle United.

Football Insider first revealed Newcastle’s interest in Robinson, 25, back in February – with Eddie Howe targetting an attack-minded left-back option with more pace than Dan Burn.

But the Magpies are now exploring a move for Tierney – whose future at Arsenal remains unclear despite the start of the 2023-24 campaign already being underway.

Game time was been hard to come by for the defender last term as a result of injury issues and the arrival of Zinchenko from Man City last summer (2022), a left-back who is more suited to Arteta’s style.

He notched one goal and two assists in 36 appearances across all competitions this term, but started in just 15 of those outings.

Tierney made 36 appearances for the Gunners across all competitions last season and was in the starting lineup for 15 of those outings.
