Rangers news: Career is 'on the line' for Aaron Ramsey after 'worrying' injury update - pundit

Aaron Ramsey’s “worrying” use of personal physios suggests the Rangers midfielder is struggling with a “recurring injury problem”, according to Noel Whelan.

The former Aberdeen striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 31-year-old’s “career is on the line” if he cannot find fitness.

Ramsey has played just 94 minutes since joining Rangers on loan from Juventus in the January transfer window.

The 71-cap Wales star has been sidelined through injury but returned to Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s matchday squad on Saturday (5 March) as an unused substitute in a 1-0 win over Aberdeen.

The Scottish Sun claim (3 March) the on-loan midfielder has spent £30,000 of his own money to fly specialist physios into Glasgow in a bid to find fitness.

When asked for his thoughts on Ramsey’s situation, Whelan told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury: “It’s so worrying.

“He’s obviously struggled with injury for his whole career and been out of the game for quite a while over the years.

“That has been the problem for him. We’ve only seen flashes of the quality he has. He didn’t get enough games at Juventus, and they’ve had enough of him and moved him on.

“It was an exciting move for him to come to Rangers, but we’ve not seen him. It’s a really disappointing scenario because they need him in this title race.

“But the bigger picture for him is that his career is on the line here. Who is going to take a chance on him if he can’t get fit?

“The worrying thing with his own physios coming in is that it suggests there’s a recurring injury problem. It’s a huge concern.”
