Rangers TV pundit warns of 'rising tensions' after what he's heard at Ibrox

Alan Hutton has suggested the “tension is rising” at Rangers as Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men continue to “hunt Celtic down” in the title race.

The former Gers defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the Ibrox faithful may be “worried” about the sub-par performances and finishing on show.

Van Bronckhorst’s decision to replace talisman Alfredo Morelos with Kemar Roofe with Rangers drawing 0-0 against Aberdeen on Saturday (5 March) was met with loud boos from the Rangers fans.

However, the former Leeds forward came up with the winner with nine minutes to play to paper over the cracks of another poor display in front of goal.

Rangers registered 20 shots on goal against Aberdeen, but only two managed to find the target.

Hutton insisted Gers fans are “frustrated” with the “phenomenal” number of chances going to waste as the battle for the Scottish Premiership title continues.

“The fans weren’t happy when Morelos went off,” he told Football Insider‘s Russell Edge.

Nothing to do with Roofe, they just didn’t agree with the substitution because they were desperate for a goal.

“The tension is rising at Rangers because they’re hunting Celtic down. When the performances aren’t there, it’s always a worry.

“There’ll be a bit of frustration from the fans, I’m sure. When you look at the amount of chances created in the last three games, it’s phenomenal.

It’s about 80-plus chances. You’d expect a team of this quality to score more goals and be more comfortable.”

Rangers remain three points adrift of Celtic atop the Scottish Premiership.

Van Bronckhorst’s face Red Star Belgrade in the Europa League Round of 16 tomorrow (10 March).
