Rangers to spend '£10m+' on new signing? Hutton reacts to confirmed news

Celtic will never spend big money in the transfer window despite record breaking profits.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Rangers defender Alan Hutton insisted the Hoops will never enter the market willing to spend £10million-plus on a player, regardless of how much cash is in the bank, and the same goes for his old club Rangers.

The club confirmed (18 September) that their profits for the year ended 30 June 2023, before taxation, had increased to £40.7m, compared to just over £6m last year.

The group revenue also increased by almost 36 per cent taking it to almost £120m.

Although the club signed several new players in the summer window, fans did not see any big money new arrivals that they may have been expecting given the club’s financial position.

Hutton urged supporters not to get their hopes up.

I just do not think it will happen now,” he told Football Insider.

I just cannot see Rangers or Celtic going out and spending £10m-plus. Obviously Celtic are in a better position in terms of money, they have brought a lot in but they have spent money and brought in players.

I think there was an expectation when Brendan Rodgers came in and we saw some of the names they were linked with and we thought they were going to spend big and really go for it.

But I just can’t really see it nowadays, I can’t see either team going out and spending £10m-plus.

I can see why fans are frustrated because they want to see their team going into the Champions League and seeing them competing but to do that you are going to have to spend tens of millions.
