'Absolute disgrace', 'music to my ears' - Fans react to England fans booing Jordan Henderson off the pitch
Fans have been reacting to Liverpool legend Jordan Henderson being booed off the pitch for England against Australia on Friday (13 October).
The former Reds captain traded Anfield for a big money Saudi Arabia move earlier this summer and linked up with Steven Gerrard at Al Ettifaq.
The move was met with a lot of criticism from Liverpool and England fans who had for so long admired Henderson’s commitment and his moral stance off the pitch.
Many England fans have been left scratching their heads at Gareth Southgate’s insistence on including the 33-year-old in his international squad when there are so many young, talented midfielders more worthy of the call up.
Henderson was in the starting lineup for the 1-0 win over Australia but was replaced after 62 minutes and was met my boos from the home support as he left the pitch.
Manager Gareth Southgate was shocked by the reaction to the long-serving England player and “couldn’t understand” the reaction, urging supporters to get behind the team.
