Graeme Souness cited after journalist's Rangers next manager reveal - 'I know for a fact', says pundit

Rangers have been told to let Graeme Souness pick the club’s next manager.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Celtic striker Frank McAvennie insisted the Gers need to choose their next manager based on football, not financial reasons.

The Light Blues are still on the hunt for a successor to Michael Beale after he was sacked earlier this month following a string of poor performances.

Beale replaced Giovanni van Bronckhorst last November when he was sacked despite having led the team to the Europa League final in his previous season in charge.

According to journalist Andy Devlin (11 October), the Ibrox board are split over who they want to be the next manager with Philippe Clement and Kevin Muscat the top two contenders in the race.

The former Club Brugge boss Clement and ex-Rangers player and Yokohoma F Marinos boss Muscat are set to hold further talks with the club as they attempt to make a final decision.

But McAvennie urged the Gers hierarchy to call in extra help.

“Let Graeme Souness pick the manager because he will pick the right person,” he told Football Insider.

He has the club’s best interest at heart, rather than somebody who is thinking about financial. He will be thinking about the football side rather than the financial side.

I know for a fact that they have not paid Giovanni van Bronckhorst yet. Where are they getting this money that they are going to bring a top manager in? They are now all arguing about it.
