Rangers told Kevin Muscat should have got the job after Clement twist - pundit
Kevin Muscat should have got the Rangers job instead of Philippe Clement but even he might struggle with the players Michael Beale brought in.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Celtic striker Frank McAvennie suggested Muscat’s history with the club make him the best man for the job but the players will need to step up if he is going to be a success.
Rangers announced on Sunday morning that ex-Club Brugge boss Clement has been appointed their new manager after he pipped Muscat to the job.
The new man will have a monumental task on their hands to get the best out of the nine players Michael Beale brought in to the club.
The new arrivals have struggled to win the affection of the fans with lacklustre performances so far this term.
McAvennie suggested Muscat should be the next boss instead but it will be a difficult job for whoever was to be appointed.

“I would have given it to Muscat,” he told Football Insider after the appointment of Clement.
“He has played with the club, he has worked under Ange [Postecoglou], he plays a decent kind of football and has won things but I just do not know if he is decent enough to go into that team.
“I do not think any manager could get a tune out of those players.
“Their confidence is so low and you can see that. The players are not stupid they know the new boys who have come in are not good enough.
“These boys have got to give more than what they are giving for Rangers that is for sure.“
