Pundit verdict on Newcastle United accepting Bruno Guimaraes offer after £100m+ reveal

Newcastle United won’t be tempted to sell Bruno Guimaraes even if a club offers £100million-plus.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former West Ham striker Frank McAvennie suggested interest from Man City could turn Guimaraes’ head but Newcastle will be in no rush to sell even with a big money offer.

Earlier this month the 25-year-old put pen to paper on fresh terms at St James’ Park following his arrival from Olympique Lyon last January.

As relayed by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano (16 October), there is no specific release clause related to Barcelona, despite reports, but there is a £100m release clause for any interested party if they want to take Guimaraes away from the club.

Man City had reportedly been interested in the midfielder and the Magpies were keen to tie him down to a new deal in light of that.

When asked if Newcastle will feel pressured to sell if there is a big money offer from another club, McAvennie told Football Insider:I do not think they need to sell.

Newcastle are not where Man City are, they are going to be there but they are not there yet, and if Man City come in, it is guaranteed medals and that might turn someone’s head. I can see him accepting Man City offer.

I get that they have put that clause in, they are just covering their own back. He has been one of the stars but Eddie Howe has got everyone playing well and I think every one of them deserves a new contract at this point.
