'Blatant cheating' - Everton fans react to 'unbelievable' Konate controversy during Liverpool defeat

Everton fans have had their say after Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate escaped a red card during the Reds’ 2-0 win over their Merseyside rivals on Saturday (21 October).

The incident occurred with the score level at 0-0, and just minutes before the Reds opened the scoring through a Mohamed Salah penalty.

Everton’s Ashley Young had already been sent off for a second bookable offence in the first half.

Konate clipped the heels of Beto on 66 minutes as the Everton forward raced through on goal, but escaped a booking.

The France international had already been cautioned by on-field referee Craig Pawson.

He was quickly substituted by Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool took the lead minutes later, with Salah securing the three points in stoppage time following a devastating counter-attack.

Sean Dyche was booked for his protests against the decision and one fan urged the Toffees boss to call out the “blatant cheating” post-match.

More supporters were left lost for words after Pawson declined to dismiss Konate.

Another fan slammed the “absolutely disgusting display” from the officials during the derby.

One supporter felt Everton were “robbed” after putting up a brave fight against their rivals.

Another fan claimed Jurgen Klopp has “terrified” referees into giving Liverpool favourable decisions after the furore surrounding their loss against Tottenham last month.

Finally, one supporter hit out at the lack of consistency between the Young sending-off and the decision to let Konate remain on the pitch.
