Sources: Everton fear Calvert-Lewin could quit due to takeover

Everton are concerned by Al-Ettifaq’s reported interest in striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin as their takeover uncertainty continues, sources have told Football Insider.

Recent reports have suggested Steven Gerrard’s side are set to swoop for the 26-year-old forward in January.

However, it is believed Everton have no plans to lose Calvert-Lewin in the coming months – but could have their hand forced if the 777 Partners takeover does not go through.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that he is seen as a big player for the future and a key man for Sean Dyche.

Gerrard and Al-Ettifaq have already persuaded four ex-Premier League stars to make the move to Saudi Arabia, including Everton’s Demerai Gray and Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson.

And the Reds legend could now take advantage of the takeover uncertainty at Goodison Park to land his next target.

As reported by the New York Times (18 October), the process has stalled after US investment group 777 Partners failed to provide the required financial information to British regulators.

Calvert-Lewin has started the last three Premier League games after struggling with injury early in the new season.

The Sheffield United academy product, who is under contract until June 2025, has managed three goals in seven appearances this term.

He made just 17 appearances last season as injuries once again limited his involvement in yet another relegation scrap for Everton.

Calvert-Lewin, who signed for the Toffees in 2016, has scored 63 goals in 216 total games for the club.

He has also managed four goals in 11 England caps but made his last appearance for the Three Lions back in 2021.
