Sources: Newcastle open Joelinton talks as signing blizzard accelerates

Newcastle United are now turning their attention to a new deal for Joelinton after wrapping up their latest renewal, sources have told Football Insider.

Dan Burn has just signed a fresh extension running until June 2025, following in the footsteps of a number of his Magpies teammates.

Bruno Guimaraes, Sean Longstaff and Callum Wilson have all also recently signed new deals at St James’ Park.

Next on the list for Newcastle is Joelinton, who has transformed his career in a central midfield role under Eddie Howe.

Football Insider revealed last month (26 September) that talks have already opened with the Brazil international – and progress has been made in those negotiations.

The 27-year-old is currently out of contract in June 2025.

Manager Eddie Howe is keen to keep the spine of his squad at Newcastle as he looks to build on the successes of last season – and Joelinton has been identified as a key man.

The Brazil international cost a reported fee of £40million when he joined from Hoffenheim in 2019.

He struggled during his first years at the club after arriving on Tyneside as an attacking player.

Joelinton has since been repurposed from a forward into a midfielder and notched eight goals and three assists in 40 games for the Magpies last term.

He has played just six times in the new 2023-24 campaign with a hamstring injury limiting his involvement.

The 6ft 1in star has made 163 appearances across all competitions for Newcastle, notching 22 goals and 12 assists.

Newcastle sit eighth in the Premier League after the first eight games of the new campaign.

The Magpies are next in action against Crystal Palace on 21 October.
