'Shocking' - Newcastle United fans react to what Nick Pope did against West Ham
Newcastle United fans were unable to hide their anger towards Nick Pope on social media after his mistake led to West Ham’s opening goal on Sunday afternoon.
The Tyneside club went a goal down inside eight minutes at the London Stadium after Tomas Soucek opened the scoring for the home side.
Emerson took the ball around Pope inside his own box before setting up the Hammers midfielder for a simple finish.
The 31-year-old goalkeeper came charging off his line to try and intercept the ball but misjudged the pass and left his goal undefended.
Eddie Howe’s side are looking to make it four wins in a row in the Premier League, but Pope’s mistake left the Magpies with plenty of work to be done in the capital.
Both sides headed into Sunday’s clash knowing the victor would lead the other in the table, with Newcastle and West Ham on 12 and 13 points respectively before kick-off.
