Sources: Newcastle United star Hendrick undergoes Sheffield Wednesday medical as Leeds beaten to deal
Newcastle midfielder Jeff Hendrick is having a medical at Sheffield Wednesday ahead of a loan move, sources have told Football Insider.
Newcastle have agreed terms with Wednesday for the temporary transfer of the Republic of Ireland international.
Hendrick, 31, has also attracted strong interest from Leeds United and West Brom.
With Sandro Tonali, Joelinton, Bruno Guimaraes and Sean Longstaff all ahead of the midfielder in Eddie Howe’s pecking order, Hendrick has once again been deemed excess to requirements at St James’ Park.
He has failed to make the bench in all three of Newcastle’s Premier League fixtures so far this season.
His imminent exit comes after he also spent the 2022-23 campaign out on loan at Reading, where he scored four times and assisted once in 46 appearances.

Hendrick has also had experience in the Championship with QPR after moving to Loftus Road temporarily in 2022.
The ex-Burnley man has one year remaining on his Newcastle contract after penning a four-year deal in 2020.
He joined the Magpies on a free transfer but has only made 27 appearances for the club, scoring three goals and assisting once.
Sheffield Wednesday are also close to signing Isaac Hayden from Newcastle.
Football Insider revealed earlier on Friday (1 September) that the 28-year-old is undergoing a medical ahead of a loan move to Hillsborough.
The Owls have already made 10 new signings this summer but are the only Championship side yet to pick up a point after four games of the new season.
