Leeds United told to sell seven stars after confirmed news - pundit

Leeds United stars who had relegation clauses in their contracts should have been sold in the summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former West Ham striker Frank McAvennie couldn’t believe Leeds stars would have relegation release clauses in their contracts.

Jack Harrison, Robin Koch, Brenden Aaronson, Max Wober, Diego Llorente, Rasmus Kristensen and Marc Roca all had clauses in their contracts that would allow them to leave on a temporary basis in the event that the Whites were relegated.

Whilst Koch, Aaronson, Kristensen and Roca all put pen to paper on a deal that included the clause in advance of the 2022-23 campaign, Llorente, Wober and Harrison all signed new deals during last season when the club were in real danger of dropping down to the second division.

McAvennie couldn’t believe players would even consider abandoning their side in a time of need.

I signed for West Ham when I knew they were getting relegated,” he told Football Insider.

People say you are an idiot but not for me because I have still got the love from the West Ham fans because of it. I am very loyal like that so I could not have abandoned them in the Championship, but some people can.

Getting relegated is just part and parcel of football. If you work your socks off then you will not get relegated. Why are the players thinking like that? It’s a disgrace. If I was a manager I would get rid of players if they are thinking like that.
