Leeds fans are all saying the same thing about Luke Ayling after 'terrifying' twist

Leeds United fans have had their say on the right-back situation at the club as summer signing Djed Spence nears a return to fitness.

Jamie Shackleton started at right-back as Daniel Farke’s side ran out 4-1 winners against Huddersfield Town on Saturday (28 October).

Youngster Archie Gray has also deputised in defence, but it was Luke Ayling who replaced Shackleton with 30 minutes remaining of the clash against The Terriers.

All three players have been filling in during the injury absence of Spence, who suffered a knee ligament injury in training last month.

He had played just nine minutes in a substitute appearance against Sheffield Wednesday.

The club confirmed the on-loan Tottenham ace will miss eight weeks of action, meaning he is closing in on a return to the side.

Leeds sit third in the Championship and won four of their five games in October.

One fan insisted Spence must be in the side to face Leicester on Friday (3 November) – or Leeds face getting “smashed” by the league leaders.

More fans appeared excited about the prospect of adding the right-back to Farke’s first-choice eleven with Leeds now firmly established in the playoff places.

Fans also took aim at Ayling, who has not started each of the last four Championship games, with some claiming he must be among those replaced in January.

One fan took it a step further, claiming Ayling, Liam Cooper and Patrick Bamford must be “released” in January.
