Sources: Nottingham Forest medical team dispatched to Italy to seal Divock Origi deal

Nottingham Forest are pushing to complete a deal for AC Milan striker Divock Origi, sources have told Football Insider.

Steve Cooper is looking to add extra firepower to his squad late into the transfer window and is eager to sign the 28-year-old forward.

It is understood that Forest have flown out a medical team to Italy to accelerate the process of the deal.

Football Insider revealed on Friday (1 September) that Burnley were also in talks to sign Origi, but Forest currently lead the race to secure his signature.

Origi has fallen out of favour at the Serie A club and reports suggest that he is currently training away from Milan’s senior squad.

The Italian outfit are keen to offload the Belgian striker to balance their finances, and Forest view Origi’s situation as a perfect opportunity to strengthen their squad.

Origi boasts plenty of Premier League experience having scored 41 goals in 175 matches for Liverpool during his eight years in Merseyside.

Origi helped the Reds to win the Premier League title, FA Cup, EFL Cup, Champions League and Uefa Super Cup during his time with the club.

He left Liverpool in 2022 to sign a four-year contract with AC Milan, but Origi only managed to score twice for Stefano Pioli’s side despite making 36 appearances last season.

Taiwo Awoniyi has led the line for Forest during the opening weeks of the Premier League season and has scored three in three games, but Cooper is keen to bring Origi in to provide depth for the Nigerian international.
