Rangers are 'living in cuckoo land' after attempt to land Brighton senior man - pundit

Rangers are “living in cuckoo land” if they think they can land Sam Jewell from Brighton.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Celtic striker Frank McAvennie insisted there is no chance Jewell would abandon the Seagulls at this moment in time.

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano (18 October), Jewell – head of recruitment at Brighton – has been formally approached by the Gers about taking over as their new technical director.

Jewell is said to considering the proposal from the Glasgow giants but remains unconvinced about leaving the club after what has been a hugely impressive spell.

Brighton have become masters of identifying and buying talented youngsters, developing them and selling them on for huge profits.

Moises Caicedo, one of the most recent examples, joined the Seagulls from Independiente del Valle for £4million in February 2021 and was sold to Chelsea this summer for £115m.

When asked what he made of Rangers interest in Jewell, McAvennie told Football Insider:I do not think that is going to happen.

Why would you leave Brighton where you have got free reign to do whatever you want? Whoever comes in at Rangers will be given some money to play with but not as much.

I think Rangers have got to stop living in cuckoo land, they are not going to get a guy from Brighton unless there is a problem with him there. Why would he even contemplate leaving Brighton?

I know Rangers are a big club but you are in the Premier League, you are in Europe, they have got everything going for them and are playing some of their best football.
