Injury expert draws ‘grim’ Evan Ferguson conclusion from Brighton ‘video footage’

Evan Ferguson could face weeks in the Brighton treatment room after suffering a “nasty” injury during the win over Liverpool.

That is the view of medical expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in injury and data analysis, speaking exclusively to Football Insider.

Ferguson was absent from Brighton’s matchday squad against Bournemouth on Saturday after suffering a knee injury in the FA Cup victory over Liverpool.

The 18-year-old started at the Amex Stadium but was withdrawn after being injured by Liverpool midfielder Fabinho.

Ferguson’s start came after a brilliant vein of form in the Premier League that saw him score three times and assist twice in a span of five matches.

The PGMOL have since admitted that the tackle on Ferguson should have received a red card.

Dinnery labelled the tackle “grim” and insists Ferguson could spend weeks out of action after reviewing the footage of the challenge.

The indications from the initial video footage are that it’s a nasty injury for Evan Ferguson,” Dinnery told Football Insider.

It was a horrible tackle from behind that should have resulted in a red card, and it wasn’t the only challenge that crossed the line.

It never looks great in slow motion but that mechanism and the nature of the injury looked grim.

Brighton are hoping the youngster is only out for a few weeks rather than months.

But regardless, it’s a blow for the Seagulls and a huge knockback for Ferguson who burst onto the scene and was in great form.
