Kieran Maguire issues '£200m' Moises Caicedo claim after record-breaking Liverpool bid
Moises Caicedo is a low-risk investment for either Chelsea or Liverpool as he could be sold for £200million in three years’ time.
That is the opinion of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about Chelsea and Liverpool’s bidding war for Brighton’s 21-year-old star.
After weeks of negotiating with Chelsea, Brighton accepted a surprise £111million bid from Liverpool for Caicedo this week.
However, Football Insider revealed that the Blues remain interested in the deal and could return with a ‘huge’ bid to try and finalise the deal.
Liverpool’s club-record signing is currently Darwin Nunez after he completed an £85.6million move to Anfield last summer, but the Reds decided that a nine-figure fee was too expensive for Jude Bellingham’s signature earlier this summer.
With that in mind, Maguire was surprised at Liverpool’s record-breaking £111million bid for Caicedo but believes it could still be profitable for the Reds in the long term.

“I think there have been eyebrows raised when Liverpool bid £111million for Moises Caicedo,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.
“But when Liverpool set their initial budgets this season it was without the expectation that they would be getting substantial sums in sales.
“They have shifted a lot of costs off the wage bill and got an extra £40-£50million from player sales that they didn’t expect.
“In the case of Caicedo, he’s a 21-year-old player they could potentially sell for £200million in three years’ time if they have done their analysis correctly.
“So therefore from their point of view it’s actually a fairly low-risk investment in a player that has time on his side and has proven himself in the Premier League.“
