Sources: Major update on Brighton replacing Moises Caicedo as deal agreed

Brighton are making a deal for a key midfielder their new priority as they prepare to lose Moises Caicedo, sources have told Football Insider.

It has been widely reported that Caicedo, 21, is closing in on a British-record £115million move to Chelsea despite late interest from Liverpool – with a fee now agreed between the clubs and a medical underway.

As such, Brighton are keen to bolster their midfield with a replacement for the Ecuador international starlet.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (14 August) that the south coast club are now the frontrunners to sign Leeds United star Tyler Adams after his Chelsea move collapsed.

But Brighton have been preparing for Caicedo’s exit throughout the summer, with a lot of the Seagulls’ business completed early in the window.

Mahmoud Dahoud and James Milner both arrived on free transfers following the expiration of their contracts at Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool respectively.

The signing of Adams would also bolster Brighton’s options at right-back, as the United States international – much like Caicedo – has experience in a full-back role.

Away from the midfield, Brighton have already strengthened despite an impressive showing in the 2022-23 campaign.

However, it is believed Roberto De Zerbi will be given the funds to do any deals he wants in the final weeks of the window.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that Brighton will move without hesitation “if the right player comes up” before the 1 September deadline.

One such deal could be the move for Ajax midfielder Mohammed Kudus, who has been heavily linked with the south coast club.

The Seagulls have had a lot of success in South America and could look to exploit that knowledge again in the coming weeks.

Brighton started the 2023-24 campaign with a 4-1 win over Luton Town at the Amex Stadium.

They will play Europa League football this season, starting with the group stage – which begins next month.
