Agbonlahor can't believe Tottenham could seal David Raya signing after what he saw
Gabby Agbonlahor has urged Tottenham to forget signing Brentford star David Raya as a long-term successor for Hugo Lloris.
The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed Spurs should instead move for “reliable” England and Everton ace Jordan Pickford.
According to The Telegraph (8 January), Tottenham are tracking Brentford shot-stopper Raya, 27, as they search for Lloris’ long-term successor.
Lloris announced his retirement from international football on Monday (9 January) and is out of contract at Spurs at the end of the 2023-24 season.
The World Cup winner, who has racked up almost 450 appearances for Tottenham, has been criticised for a number of high-profile gaffes this season.
Raya has started every match for Brentford this season and has been a mainstay since joining the Bees in the Championship in 2019.

When asked if he thought Raya could step into Lloris’ shoes at Spurs, Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “No, I don’t.
“I’ve seen games where he’s been outstanding, but also games where he’s been clumsy playing out from the back – or he’s given away a soft goal.
“If I was Tottenham I’d go and get Pickford.
“He’s England’s number one, he’s reliable in the Premier League – he suits Spurs.
“He is someone I’d go and get, he’s played in a lot of huge games.”
Pickford is yet to sign a new contract at Everton – with his current deal set to expire in June 2024.
He has played at three major tournaments with England and has racked up almost 230 appearances at Premier League level.
