Sources: Brentford reject Everton approach for Thomas Frank

Brentford have rejected an approach from Everton for Thomas Frank, sources have told Football Insider.

The Merseysiders have turned their attention to luring the Dane, 49, from the west London club after sacking Frank Lampard on Monday.

Frank has been targeted by Everton but Brentford have turned down an approach and it is believed that he is also not keen on taking the Goodison job.

It means the Premier League strugglers will have to look elsewhere as they up their search for their sixth manager in five years.

Everton are considering various options, including a proven Premier League manager who has a track record of success in the division and of keeping teams up.

The likes of Marcelo Bielsa and Sean Dyche, who are both available, fit into that bracket as does Frank, who has worked wonders on a shoestring budget at eighth-placed Brentford.

An alternative would be a Goodison idol who could help unite the supporters, who have turned so severely on the board in recent months.

The long-serving former assistant manager Duncan Ferguson is one option, as well as DC United boss Wayne Rooney, and the two could even be paired together.

Everton have some time to secure a replacement for Lampard as the team do not have a match until the Arsenal fixture on Saturday week.

Football Insider broke the news on Saturday evening that Lampard would be sacked by Everton in the wake of Saturday’s defeat to West Ham.

Owner Farhad Moshiri was planning to dismiss the 44-year-old even if the Merseysiders had won at London Stadium.
