Arsenal victims of major injustice as Ivan Toney footage emerges - pundit

Frank McAvennie has lambasted VAR official Lee Mason for not disallowing Brentford’s equaliser against Arsenal on Saturday (11 February).

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker said Mason didn’t need to draw the lines to see Ivan Toney was offside.

As shown on Sky Sports (12 February), Toney scored a late equaliser against the Gunners who dropped points for the second game in a row as they cling on to their place at the top of the Premier League table.

As relayed by the Daily Mail (12 February), Mason, who was the VAR official for the match, forgot to draw the offside lines when checking the goal.

Christian Norgaard was in an offside position when he crossed for Toney meaning the goal would have been ruled out had the offside lines been drawn.

The PGMOL apologised to Mikel Arteta’s side for the human error which cost them a crucial three points.

As quoted by the Daily Mail (14 February), Arteta said he will only be “satisfied” if they give the two points lost back to his side.

McAvennie insisted Lee Mason didn’t need the lines to get the decision right.

The thing is you can look at it and say he is offside,” he told Football Insider.

I can get if he did not draw the lines if he got the right decision, but he made the wrong decision. I have heard so many ex-footballers say that they knew right away that he was offside.

It is not just the referees now, it is the guys in the VAR room getting it wrong as well. He did not have to put any lines in it, you can see clear as day that it is offside.
