Sources: Bournemouth boss Iraola backed by board to beat Barcelona to Fresneda deal

A bid of £15milion could be enough to land Bournemouth target Ivan Fresneda this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed relegation to the Spanish second tier is likely to force the hand of Real Valladolid in negotiations for the 18-year-old.

That fee is not likely to be a problem for Bournemouth – whose owners are willing to back new manager Andoni Iraola heavily in the transfer market.

Football Insider exclusively revealed news of the Cherries’ surprise interest in Fresneda on Monday (17 July).

Iraola is knowledgeable about Fresneda and his talent following their overlapping time in La Liga.

However, Bournemouth are likely to face huge competition for his signature – with Borussia Dortmund, Barcelona and Real Madrid all keen on a potential deal.

Arsenal were keen on the youngster but have cooled their interest after landing versatile defender Jurrien Timber from Ajax.

It is believed Dortmund are slight favourites to land the Spaniard – but Bournemouth are nonetheless ready to pay Valladolid’s valuation of the youngster.

The Cherries hope a quicker pathway to first-team football in the Premier League will help them land the highly-rated right-back.

Scouts from the south coast club watched Fresneda at the recent Under-19 European Championships and left impressed with his performances.

He made 24 appearances across all competitions in the 2022-23 campaign – his first season of full senior involvement.

Bournemouth have already completed deals for Hamed Junior Traore and Justin Kluivert this summer.

Iraola’s side are also reportedly close to completing a deal for highly-rated left-back Milos Kerkez from AZ Alkmaar.
